La Cala Golf Resort is a large gated golf community set in a valley of the Sierra de Mijas, roughly five kilometres inland from the beach town of La Cala de Mijas. It is built around three championship courses designed by Cabell B. Robinson, América, Asia and Europa, plus a par-3 course and a golf academy, and it centres on the four-star La Cala Resort hotel and spa. The Royal Spanish Golf Federation recognises it as the largest golf complex in the country. Homes here range from apartments in gated complexes to frontline-golf villas and building plots, spread across phases that have been added since the resort opened in 1989.
It suits a specific buyer. If you want to walk to the beach, the promenade and the restaurants, La Cala de Mijas on the coast is the better fit. La Cala Golf is quieter, greener and higher, with open views over fairways and hills, and it is built for people who are happy to drive the few minutes down to the sea.
