The Garden City of Costa del Sol – Estepona

Estepona is a town located on the Costa del Sol in the province of Málaga, in the autonomous community of Andalusia in southern Spain. The town is situated between Marbella and Sotogrande. It is also the capital of the municipality of Estepona.

The history

The history of Estepona goes back to the time of the Phoenicians, who founded the city in the 8th century BC. The Romans also had a presence in the area, and you can still see evidence of their occupation in the form of the Saladavieja Aqueduct, which was built to bring water to Estepona from nearby mountains.

After the Romans left, the area was occupied by the Moors, who built the Castle of San Luis on the hill where the Castillo de Gibralfaro now stands.

The Moors also built the Torre del Reloj (Clock Tower) in the center of town.

After the Christian reconquest of Spain, Estepona came under the control of the Kingdoms of Castile and Aragon.

Old Town

Estepona on Costa del Sol has a beautiful Old Town, centro historico with Plaza de las flores in the centre, with white houses and flower-filled balconies.

The main square is Plaza de las Flores, which is surrounded by cafés bars and restaurants.

The Clock Tower is also located in this square. Another notable landmark in Estepona is the Castillo de San Luis, which was built in 1560 to defend the city from pirates. The castle is now a Parador, or luxury hotel.Estepona is also known for its beaches and its marina.

Estepona marina is home to yachts and fishing boats, as well as restaurants and bars. There are also several golf courses in the area.Estepona is a beautiful city with a rich history. If you are looking for a place to relax and enjoy the sun, this is the perfect spot for you.

Beach around Estepona

If you’re looking for a more active beach experience, there are also plenty of options for water sports in Estepona. Windsurfing, kitesurfing and stand-up paddleboarding are all popular activities here, and there are several reputable schools where you can learn or rent equipment.

One of the best things about Estepona’s beaches is that they’re never too crowded – even during peak season, you’ll always be able to find a spot to yourself. So if you’re looking for a little bit of peace and quiet, this is definitely the place to be.

Estepona Golf

Estepona is also a great destination for golfers, with several excellent courses to choose from. The most famous is probably the Valle Romano Golf Resort, which has two 18-hole courses designed by leading architect Robert Trent Jones Jr.

If you’re looking for something a little cheaper, there are also several good public courses in the area, including the Estepona Golf Club and the El Paraiso Golf Club.

Estepona is a great place to visit if you’re looking for a relaxed atmosphere, beautiful beaches and plenty of things to do. Whether you want to spend your days lounging on the sand or teeing off on one of the many excellent golf courses, you’ll find everything you need here

Sierra Bermeja

Sierra Bermeja is a mountain range that runs along the coast of Estepona. The highest point is 1,266 meters (4,154 feet) above sea level and it offers stunning views of the surrounding area.

If you’re looking for a challenge, there are several hiking trails that lead to the top of Sierra Bermeja. However, even if you’re not planning on doing any serious hiking, it’s still worth taking a drive or a walk up to the Sierra Bermeja viewpoint to enjoy the scenery.

Selwo Aventura

Selwo Aventura is a safari park located just outside of Estepona. The park is home to a variety of animals, including lions, tigers, giraffes and elephants.

Visitors can take a safari tour through the park in an open-top jeep, or opt for a more leisurely experience on the park’s train. There are also several shows and educational programs that take place throughout the day.

If you’re traveling with kids, Selwo Aventura is definitely worth a visit. Even if you’re not, it’s still a fun and interesting place to spend an afternoon.

Estepona Botanical Gardens

The Estepona Botanical Gardens are located just outside of town and they are definitely worth a visit. The gardens are home to over 5,000 different species of plants, including cacti, palms, bamboos and subtropical flowers.

There is also a small zoo with iguanas, flamingos, penguins and other animals. The gardens are open every day from 9:00am to 8:00pm
