Malaga City Council will switch on the Christmas lights on the 26th of November. This is in keeping with tradition, as it is the last Friday in November. This year it coincides again with Black Friday.

Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic last year, the switching on of the lights and the shows were restricted. This was to avoid too many people gathering in Malaga. The health situation has improved this year. The traditional Christmas lights will be back with a music and light show. The details are not yet fixed.
Calle Larios will once again be the heart of the Christmas celebrations. It will host the Christmas Forest for 40 days. Visitors and locals can enjoy 22 arches decorated with hundreds of leaves, suns and angel figures.
The company Ximénez Iluminación has been commissioned to create the lights and decorations for the Christmas season.
As reported by La Opinion de Málaga: “Last September, the City Council awarded a contract worth 3,609,787.80 euros (including taxes) for the supply of luminous decorations for the Christmas and Carnival celebrations to the company Iluminaciones Ximenez. S.A., which has been the concessionaire for this supply since 2018.”
The contract is for three years, but can be extended for one year. The maximum amount that will be spent per year is 1,203,262.60 euros.
